Love the Bus Week

Arlington Public Schools (APS) was happy to celebrate Love the Bus Week, and promote another healthy, green mode of transportation.

What is Love the Bus Week?

Love the Bus Week is a national event hosted by the American School Bus Council to express appreciation of school bus drivers. Arlington Transportation Partners, APS’s partner in supporting APS Go!, has expanded the event to raise awareness of the importance of riding buses for the APS community. Riding the bus, just like biking, walking, and carpooling, is one way that the APS community can support healthy, sustainable transportation.

Love the Bus Everyday

For Staff and APS Colleagues

  • APS employees can ride public buses to get to APS schools. Every APS school and site has at least one bus route that stops within a half-mile radius, making the bus convenient as well as environmentally friendly.
  • Try one of several websites to help plan your trip on a public bus, including CarFreeAtoZ, Car Free Near MeMetro’s Trip Planner, or Google Maps. Transit is a good app to download to your smart phone for trip planning on the spot. And be sure to check out the whole list of Transportation Choices on the APS Go! website.

For Your Students

  • Be sure to encourage students to ride the but. Don't forget to suggest that they show appreciation to their bus drivers.
  • K-12 students can enjoy the advantages of the iRide SmarTrip card. Students can ride ART buses for $1 with the iRide card, and use it when traveling on Metrobuses or Metrorail (full-price fares apply on Metrobus and Metrorail). Riding the bus is just one way to encourage independence in teens.

This event has ended. We look forward for Love the Bus Week in 2019. In the meantime, check out and sign up for more ATP events
